INSURANCE REFERRAL REQUESTS

Some insurance programs require a referral to see a specialist or for certain diagnostic procedures. You may request a referral by selecting the appropriate telephone prompt and leaving a message providing your name and all pertinent information.


We require at least 48 hours notice for your referral request. It is extremely difficult to process same day requests, and sometimes impossible due to insurance company procedures.


Referrals for services already performed ("retro referrals") are also extremely difficult, and often will be denied by the insurance company.


It is your responsibility to know the rules of your insurance policy before you seek services.

PHONE CALLS

There are times when you may desire to speak with the doctor, and we will do our best to accommodate you. Please keep in mind that most problems are best addressed by a face-to-face appointment. Our staff may be able to help you with your concerns, so please try to discuss it with them.


Priority is given to emergencies (in office or telephone), then to our in-office patients who have made an appointment. Returning routine phone calls is of a lower priority, often occurring when time permits during the day, or after hours. If you have special circumstances, please communicate this to our staff and we will try our best to help you.


Please do not abuse the phone call privilege.




TEST RESULTS

One of our telephone prompts is dedicated to test results. Please leave your name and telephone number along with which results you are seeking (ex: blood tests, x-rays, CT scans, test performed at the hospital). We will do our best to get back to you the same day, though this is not always possible.


Results can be mailed to you using the United States Post Office (USPS).


Some results can be sent to you by email. If you desire this option, please provide an email address. You will receive an email with a PDF attachment that is password protected. If you do not receive the email within seven days, please check your spam folder for email from docinternalmed.com. Let us know if you have not received the results.


Results can also be faxed, if you can provide a fax number that is secure, so that your medical data is not inadvertently shared with others.

PRESCRIPTION REFILLS

For your convenience, we have a special menu prompt for prescription refills. Please speak slowly and clearly, spelling your last name, the name of the medication, size (ex: milligrams) and the quantity that you would like. Provide a pharmacy name and phone number, and the city where the pharmacy is located.


Our prescription line is checked several times during the day. The prescription information must be reviewed by the doctor, and then sent to the pharmacy. Most, but not all of the prescriptions are sent to the pharmacy the same day. If you have a special need, please clearly communicate it.


All of our prescriptions are e-prescribed using the state-of-the-art online service DrFirst TM. This provides clear and legible instructions to the pharmacy sent by fax or email. Extensive error checking, drug interactions and formulary status reduces the chances of error and enhances safety.

MAKE AN APPOINTMENT

Our services are by appointment only. Please call during business hours to make an appointment. Let us know if the appointment is for a routine visit (cold or other illness, follow-up of blood pressure or cholesterol, etc.) or for a complete physical exam, so that the appropriate time can be allotted. If you are not sure what you want, our staff will be happy to help you assess.


We will do our best to accommodate your schedule. Same day appointments are frequently available. Let our staff know if you are very ill and must be seen that day, but please do not abuse this privilege. Physician approval may be required.


Please be on time for your appointment. If you are a new patient or have insurance or demographic changes, please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled time and have your insurance cards available.


Walk-in visits are discouraged, though under urgent circumstances we will do our best to accommodate. Please be fair to those who have made an appointment.
